For a local business, your Google Business Profile influences more search visibility than your website does. Most are half-filled and then forgotten.
When somebody in Kerala searches for a service near them, Google shows a map with three businesses above the ordinary results. Which three is decided largely by your Google Business Profile — not by your website.
It is free, it takes an afternoon to do properly, and most profiles we look at are half-complete and last touched at setup.
The fields that actually matter
Primary category — this is the single most influential field, and picking a vague one costs you visibility
Complete address and service area, exactly matching what appears everywhere else
Opening hours, including special hours for festivals — Kerala businesses lose visitors to wrong Pooram and Onam hours every year
Services and products listed individually rather than as one blob
Photographs of the actual premises, added regularly rather than once
NAP consistency is unglamorous and decisive
Your name, address and phone number must be identical across your website, your profile, JustDial, IndiaMART and every other directory you appear in. Not similar — identical.
Variations split the signal. Google has to decide whether three slightly different listings are one business or three, and while it decides, none of them rank as well as one would.
Reviews are the factor you control most
After proximity, review volume and recency are the strongest influences on which businesses appear in the map pack. A steady flow matters more than a large historical count.
The practical system: ask at the moment of maximum goodwill, which is immediately after a job is completed, and make it one tap. Send the direct review link over WhatsApp the same day.
Respond to every review, including the negative ones. Owner responses are themselves a signal, and a measured reply to a complaint reads better to a prospective customer than no reply at all.
Two things not to do
Do not incentivise reviews. It violates Google's policy, it is detectable, and the penalty falls on the business rather than the reviewer.
Do not create listings at addresses you do not occupy. Businesses do this to appear in other cities; Google removes them and the account carries the consequence.
Posts and Q&A are underused
Profile posts appear in your listing and expire, so they reward regular use. Seeding the Q&A section with the questions customers actually ask — and answering them yourself — puts useful information above the fold for the next person.
What this cannot do
A profile cannot put you in another city's map pack without a genuine address there. Organic results are a different matter, and that is where your website does the work — see our SEO service for Kerala businesses.
For a business serving one district, the profile often produces more enquiries than the website does, and it costs nothing but attention. Our SEO services in Kerala page covers local search properly, and digital marketing covers the paid and social work that sits alongside it.
